  • For Courtney (corkyflower)

    For those of you who don't know Courtney, she's a young lady who has been battling cancer for awhile.  She's been kind of down and depressed lately so if you can stop by to say hi and cheer her up a little, I'm sure it would really make her day.  This is something I came across years ago, and although I don't know where to go to get permission to post it here, I'm hoping the author won't mind as long as I include his name since it's for a good cause.  This is for you, corkyflower.

    The Race
    by Dee Groberg

    "Quit! Give up! You're beaten!"
    They shout at me and plead.
    There's just too much against you now --
    This time you can't succeed."
    And as I start to hang my head
    In front of failure's face,
    My downward fall is broken by
    The memory of a race.
    And hope refills my weakened will
    As I recall that scene --
    For just the thought of that short race
    Rejuvenates my being.
    A children's race, young boys, young men --
    Now I remember well
    Excitement, sure! But also fear,
    It wasn't hard to tell.
    They all lined up so full of hope
    Each thought to win that race
    Or tie for first, or if not that
    At least take second place.
    And fathers watched from off the side
    Each cheering for his son.
    And each boy hoped to show his dad
    That he would be the one.
    The whistle blew and off they went
    Young hearts and hopes afire --
    To win, to be the hero there
    Was each young boy's desire.
    And one boy in particular,
    Whose dad was in the crowd
    Was running near the lead and thought:
    "My dad will be so proud!"
    But as they speeded down the field
    Across a shallow dip
    The little boy who thought to win
    Lost his step and slipped.
    Trying hard to catch himself,
    His hands flew out to brace
    And 'mid the laughter of the crowd,
    He fell flat on his face.
    So down he fell and with him, hope --
    He couldn't win it now;
    Embarrassed, sad, he only wished
    To disappear somehow.
    But as he fell his dad stood up
    And showed his anxious face.
    Which to the boy so clearly said:
    "Get up and win the race!"
    He quickly rose, no damage done --
    Behind a bit that's all
    And ran with all his mind and might
    To make up for his fall.
    So anxious to restore himself --
    To catch up and to win
    His mind went faster than his legs,
    He slipped and fell again!
    He wished then, he had quit before
    With only one disgrace.
    "I'm hopeless as a runner now --
    I shouldn't try to race."
    But in the laughing crowd he searched
    And found his father's face
    That steady look that said again:
    "Get up and win the race!"
    So he jumped up to try again --
    Ten yards behind the last.
    "If I'm going to gain those yards," he thought
    "I've got to move real fast."
    Exceeding everything he had
    He regained eight or ten
    But trying so hard to catch the lead,
    He slipped and fell again!
    Defeat! He laid there silently --
    A tear dropped from his eye;
    "There's no sense in running anymore
    Three strikes, I'm out, why try?"
    The will to rise had disappeared
    All hopes had fled away;
    So far behind, so error prone
    Closer all the way.
    "I've lost so what's the use," he thought
    "I'll live with my disgrace."
    But then, he thought about his dad
    Who soon he'd have to face.
    "Get up!" An echo sounding low
    "Get up and take your place.
    You were not meant for failure here --
    Get up and win the race!"
    "With borrowed will get up," it said,
    "You haven't lost at all,
    For winning's no more than this, my son
    To rise each time you fall."
    So up he rose to run once more
    And with a new commit
    He resolved that win or lose,
    At least he wouldn't quit.
    So far behind the others now --
    The most he'd ever been;
    Still, he gave it all he had
    And ran as though to win.
    Three times he'd fallen stumbling,
    Three times he'd rose again;
    Too far behind to hope to win
    He still ran to the end.
    They cheered the winning runner
    As he crossed the line first place;
    Head high and proud and happy,
    No falling, no disgrace.
    But when the fallen youngster
    Crossed the finish line last place
    The crowd gave him the greater cheer
    For finishing the race.
    And even though he came in last
    With head bowed low, unproud;
    You would have thought he'd won the race
    To listen to the crowd.
    And to his dad he softly said,
    "I didn't do so well."
    "To me, you won!" his father said,
    "You rose each time you fell."
    And now when things seem dark
    And difficult to face;
    The memory of that little boy
    Helps me in my race.
    For all of life is like that race
    With ups and downs and all,
    And all you have to do to win
    Is rise each time you fall.
    "Quit! Give up! You're beaten!"
    They still shout in my face.
    But another voice within me says:
    "Get up and win the race!"

  • A Cure For Cancer?

    First a little background:

    I have a long history of neck, shoulder, and upper back problems, largely due because I was in so many car accidents when I was younger . . . all from other driver's hitting me, believe it or not.  I have been to various doctors throughout the years and all they ever did was give me pain killers which never did any good.  They always tried to treat the pain instead of the real problem which was the cause of the pain.  When I started going to a chiropractor and massage therapist, suddenly my pain went away . . . totally!  Needless to say, although they are good for some things, I have learned NOT to always take the advice of doctors without doing research on other alternative methods as well.  All of those pain killers they gave me eventually took their toll on my body and finally caused allergic reactions so that now, I'm allergic to all forms of NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and the only pain killer I can take for headaches is Tylenol.

    Now I research EVERYTHING, and one topic that has been of great interest lately is Cancer because I know of so many people who have it, who have died from it, or who have just discovered that they have it.  It seems like cancer is going around like the common cold these days.  Is there a cure for cancer?  Although doctors and scientists have been working on it for years and have made improvements on the treatment of it, there's still no claim of a total cure.  However, I have come across a couple of things that look very promising; one that is still in the developmental and testing stages and one that is a natural alternative.  I plan on going with these two options if I ever become a victim of that killer disease, and will continue to research the ongoing studies.

    Oftentimes, it's not doctors or scientists that come up with the cure for something.  I feel that God inspires whom He chooses to inspire, and often it's to humble those who THINK they know things because they have a piece of paper says they have the credentials.  Remember the movie Lorenzo's Oil?  A dad was inspired through his research.

    Click on THIS LINK to see a video of something that looks to be very promising in the cure of cancer (you may have to go through a commercial first).  This too, was inspired by a normal, everyday person who is neither a doctor nor a scientist, but he was driven to research on his own to try and find a cure because he has leukemia
    himself.  So what do you think?  Better than the chemotherapy treatments and radiation methods that they use now?

    I've also recently discovered another alternative that's all natural, and studies have shown that it has dissolved cancerous tumors as well. I came across this company at a homeschool exhibition and have since done some investigating on my own.

    Like everything else on the internet, you can find both good and bad about the company.  I always make it a point to investigate both sides of any issue and then make an informed decision based upon my own gut feelings or intuition.  In a lot of cases, people say things out of pure ignorance, jealousy, or what have you; and just because someone has made some mistakes in the past doesn't mean they can't do anything good in the present.

    Having been a massage therapist I am familiar with essential oils although I have never used this brand before.  I do know that there have been studies on the effects of essential oils and that they were also used anciently for a lot of ailments, even Jesus Christ used oils. Just because our society was raised with "doctors and chemical drugs" as the cure all doesn't mean that these natural alternative methods don't work.  They may seem quacky to some, but that's just because we're not used to using them as a society and therefore, tend to make ignorant judgments before doing any research ourselves. Or when we DO research things we sometimes do it with the intent to prove something wrong instead of trying to prove it right.  If you look for the negative you'll never never be happy with the positive no matter what it is you're researching. I like to start out positive and then weigh it with the negative before making any decisions.

    At any rate, if I had a choice between taking a toxic chemical (chemotherapy) that not only destroys the cancerous cells in my body, but destroys good cells as well, and makes me lose my hair and feel sick to stomach along with many other possible side effects . . . or instead, take a few drops a day of a natural substance that studies have shown to dissolve cancerous tissues and completely destroyed them without harming the normal cells . . . then I think I would much rather start out with the latter option, but that's just me.

    Here are some links to some of the studies and research on Cancer and Essential Oils:

    Again, may sound flaky to some, but I'd rather try these methods first before resorting to chemo and radiation.  What about you?

About Me

  • I have always been a VERY deep thinker and enjoy pondering and meditating on things. I love nature especially the mountains, photography; and quiet, peaceful surroundings. I've homeschooled my son off and on for about six and half years now, but next year he's going to go to our local high school where my husband teaches. If I can't get a job right away, I plan on getting back into doing some photography again as well as some of my other interests.
